October 8th-12th is National Fire Prevention Week. Along with classroom instruction, Dexter Fireman, Brian Kuntz, spoke with elementary students this morning about the importance of fire safety at home and at school. Thank you Mr. Kuntz for sharing your time with our students! We appreciate all our volunteer firefighters and their work in our community!

SATURDAY: MS Lady Spartans Volleyball are hosting their SCBL Volleyball tournament at Dexter. They are projected to be the 5th seed but they won't know officially until after tomorrow night. The attachment has the schedule and the times are approximate.

TOMORROW: There will be a, CV Junior Class sponsored, tailgate party prior to the game in the parking lot by the arena. They will be serving sloppy joes if anyone is interested in eating.
TOMORROW: HS Spartan Football will host the West Elk Patriots at Cedar Vale. Kick off is at 7:00pm. It's also Cedar Vale's Homecoming, the ceremony will take play at halftime. GOOD LUCK!! GO SPARTANS!!

We are proud to announce, recently our PE department was approved for the Legacy Regional Community Foundation "Active Play Matching Grant."
The outline of this grant is to help address the health of the children in your elementary school. The purpose of this initiative is to enhance built environment and/or equipment purchase that provide and promote schoolchildren to be more physically active in order to address the rising rate of obesity in our area. The vision is to provide a space for public elementary schoolchildren in Cowley County to enjoy vigorous exercise through organized games and unstructured play before, during and after the school day. This grant is a 1:1 matching opportunity up to $2,000.
A Special Thank you to the Legacy Foundation for approving this grant and to our Administration and school board for matching it! Our students will really benefit from the equipment being purchased through this grant! Thank you!!
GRADES PREK-5TH: The 2nd Annual "Grandparents Breakfast" will be Oct. 11. The sign up forms will be going home with students today and need to be returned Monday, Oct. 8. The 4th graders have been learning about static electricity in science. Today students had to rub a balloon on their head, then use the static to make an aluminum can roll. Then they had to see if their hypothesis on how far the can would roll was correct or not by measuring the distance it rolled. Some students were surprised at how far they could get their can to roll!
The HS Lady Spartan Volleyball team is have a volleyball clinic for grades 3rd-5th on Oct. 12 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The Deadline to sign up is Oct. 10th. For contact information, see the attachment.
HS Volleyball Regional will be at Caldwell HS; with the following schools: Argonia HS; Burden-Central HS; Caldwell HS; Dexter HS\Cedar Vale HS; Oxford HS; South Haven HS; Udall HS. Brackets and seeding won't be posted until Oct. 10th after 10:00am. The first round will be played on Oct. 16th.

First graders had a lot of fun celebrating Citizenship Month in September! We learned about being good neighbors, what the Pledge of Allegiance really means, what the colors of the flag symbolizes, and how the Constitution is our country's rule book!
