YESTERDAY: 6th Grade students visited the 40,000 acre Tallgrass Prairie Preserve north of Pawhuska, OK. They hiked through the 7 foot tall grasses and watched the herd of 3,000 bison roam on the near extinct tallgrass prairie. This was part of their six week unit of "Unique Kansas."
The 4th graders have been learning about conductors and insulators in science. Today they got to use what they have learned and play a game of freeze tag. Students were either an electrifying student (the ones that are "It"), a conductor, or an insulator. Since conductors let electricity pass through easily, those students had to feeeze immediately. The insulators had to be tagged 3 times before they were frozen because they don't allow electricity to flow through. The students had fun applying what they have learned!
TONIGHT: HS Volleyball head to Argonia to face the Red Raiders and the Oxford Wildcats. Matches start at 4:45 and will play as follows:
4:45 - 5:40 - CVD JV v. Oxford JV
5:40 - 6:00 - Warm Up for first Varsity Match
6:00 - 7:00 - Argonia V v. CVD V
7:00 - 8:00 - CVD V v. Oxford V
8:00 - 9:00 - Argonia V v. Oxford V
If the JV games run early, we will not start the first varsity game before before 6:00 pm.

YESTERDAY: 6th Grade Students have been studying the adaptations of the American Bison, as well as the many uses for each part of the animal by shopping for everyday items like a Plains Indian if they would have had a "Bison Store".
On Thursday we had a special visitor, Donna Martin, in fifth grade. For our Native American unit, students have been learning about the different regions where Native Americans settled. We learned about the different types of clothing, food, land, tools, transportation and shelter each region used. Mrs. Martin is an expert on the Native Americans in the Plains region and came on Thursday to show our students how to build a tipi and share some stories and artifacts from that region. Students helped to build the tipi with Mrs. Martins help and then we all went inside the tipi to learn about the Native Americans and pass around artifacts. It was a great day of learning.
TODAY: 2nd graders have had fun watching our caterpillars turn into a chrysalis and finally this week turning into a butterfly. We were sad to see them go, but excited to let them go!
TOMORROW: HS Football host the Flinthills Mustangs. Kickoff will be at 7:00pm. The Homecoming ceremony will be at halftime with pictures to follow in the commons. GOOD LUCK!! GO SPARTANS!!
TONIGHT: There will be a bonfire at Richard Artherton's house around 9:00pm (when the MS get back from their game). To get our football team FIRED UP for their game against Flinthills tomorrow! Hope to see everyone there!

TODAY: Yearbook staff went to a workshop at Southwestern College.
YESTERDAY:8th grade learning Earth Science. The lithosphere (hard part of the Earth) is made up of rocks that contain minerals. We're testing rocks for calcite. A few drops of acetic acid are dropped on a piece of limestone & granite. The limestone reacted by producing bubbles of CO2 gas. The granite remained unchanged.
4th grade students are participating in Classroom Economy. Students have a classroom job. They earn classroom cash by doing their job, being kind, doing well on tests, using manners, etc. Students can also lose money for behaviors, talking, not following directions, being rude, etc. The 4th graders must also pay $1,000 rent on their desk each month. Cooper Criss was able to pay off his desk (and live rent free for the rest of 4th grade) by paying $3,000 all at once. Way to go, Cooper!
YESTERDAY: Constitution Day! 2nd graders challenge you to remember why we stand for the flag and to always put your hand on your heart and show respect to our flag!

The Dexter Music Department will receive its delivery of Blue and Gold Sausage for its annual fundraiser today! A reminder to students and parents that product will be sorted and available for pickup after school. Make sure to get your order picked up so that we don’t have any hungry supporters on our hands.
